This image is unusual and that's why i find it great.
This has been taken in Chęciny, quite popular polish castle that prides itself on many similar shots, also here on deviantART. This photo is not like any of them. I am enchanted by its originality and artist's vision.
I decided to write this critique to remind all those disgusted by "oversaturated unnatural red towers" that real photography isn't an act of strict documenting the reality, but it's somehow an act of creation of other new realities.
This is how artist's saw this scene and I love the outcome. I don't actually care how this place originally looked like, because I have seen many times how Chęciny Castle looks like - I have seen tones of postcards and documenting images. If You need to see how this castle looks like in real leave deviantART now and go to google in order to search through the internet for graphics.
Now - as a viewer - I want to enter another world, a world of weird fairy tale, where red towers shine on a bluish background of evening sky.
Yes - evening sky. And that's why those towers are red: Because this photo is taken after the sunset when strong fiery headlights go on and highlight already red bricks of towers' copings. I know that, because I have also visited this castle after the sunset and seen the red bricks and orange lights with my own eyes. My photos of Chęciny Castle also document this "phenomenon". That's all what I wanted to say to those who consider this shot as unnatural and therefore ugly.
Well, it IS unnatural, but in good way, as I already mentioned. It's created in one of HDR styles. People who ever tried to create HDRs should know that.
What I wanted to say strictly to the artist this time is that I know how difficult job it is to make a good, actually outstanding HDR. Not every HDR looks good, but this one (though maybe it has some shortcomings) really looks good.
The only thing that disturbs me is the shape of that weird mechanism placed among the walls and line that runs through the frame. But these are little details that should not be decisive in overall rating.
Your gallery is the proof that You know what real photography is. All fierce discussions about Your works (no matter if they apply to oversaturated towers or other "unnatural" things) only confirm that fact.
Looks like the picture is oversaturated. The sky looks good, but the building (especially the chimneys) and the rocks looks unnatural . The grass also looks good. The rocks look like they have wrong white balance so the chimneys are too hard colored.
I suggest you to try editing the picture on two stages . Once you edit the sky and the grass and separately to edit the building . And to adjust the rocks to do not look unnatural. It's highly recommended to watch out when you use the saturation tool for boosting it. It's so easy to go beyond the borders of the natural looking picture when you use this tool.
